Welcome to Lilayi

Lilayi is a suburb located in the southeastern part of Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It is known for its natural beauty, wildlife, and conservation efforts. The name of this vibrant new community is derived from the Soli phrase Lilayi Lisuba which means the sun is setting, or, more colloquially, it’s getting late.

The reason behind this particular area being given this name is not known, but one theory among imaginators is that when the area was still a farming district, the Soli workers would, at the end of the day, say Lilayi Lisuba as a cue to start heading back to their homes in surrounding the villages.

Home to over 500 plains animals, virgin grasslands and untouched trees, Lilayi is a spacious and tranquil haven for lovers of nature. While the suburb is developing rapidly, with developments expanding into the fertile farmland, nature conservation efforts ensure that plant and animal species within the area remain protected.

The neighbourhood is home to the Lilayi Lodge, which is a luxury safari lodge that offers visitors a chance to experience Zambia's wildlife in a natural setting. Lilayi is also known for its natural beauty, with several scenic hiking trails and picnic spots located within the neighbourhood. Places like Sandy’s offer good food, and green spaces to enjoy. T

The neighbourhood is relatively safe, and private guards and neighbourhood watch groups provide security. However, visitors are advised to take basic safety precautions, such as avoiding walking alone at night and keeping valuables out of sight.

Overall, Lilayi is a unique and beautiful neighbourhood in Lusaka, offering visitors a chance to experience Zambia's wildlife and natural beauty in a peaceful and relaxing setting
