Kudu Crescent Changing the Lusaka entertainment game

Our throats are still a bit hoarse from all the singing.

First, it was the Dru Hill concert.

When we first heard the whispers about Dru Hill coming to Lusaka, we, like most, were sceptical.

In all honesty, we didn’t want to get our feelings hurt ( Brandy? Sean Paul? - Zambians DO NOT FORGET!).

So we waited.

Whatsapp groups were abuzz with ‘ I won’t believe it till they are at the airport!’

‘What Dru Hill songs do you even know?!!’

Now the people that were in high school at the top of Dru Hills’ popularity had already secretly bought their tickets. How do we know? When we went to get our tickets from the BottleShop at East Park mall, the cute girl selling tickets said ‘ There are so many people buying but I personally don’t even know who Dru Hill is or what song he has sung’ she smiled sweetly as she handed me the ticket. I blinked.

Cut to Dru Hill landing. The scramble for tickets ensued. VVIP tickets ( going at K2,500) were selling faster than we thought. When people in Lusaka want something they will pay for it.

Needless to say, the Dru Hill concert was epic ( see a highlight reel here). Acts like Salma, Izrael, Yo Maps and VJeezy graced the stage and we were so relieved we were in our dancing shoes!

Dru Hill brought the sauce and we were satisfied!

Ciela resort provided impeccable service, with no waiting in bathrooms, security in check, no lines, the bar stocked, the main venue was the perfect temperature! What a treat!

SO when Kudu Crescent announced they were having a second concert it was no question we would be there! Same venue, different acts, we were in!

Bobby Valentino of ‘ Anonymous’ and ‘Slow down’ fame, and Rotimi aka Mr Sexy Nigerian Butterscotch, a singer and actor known for his role in the series Power were scheduled to perform and our little inner fangirl hearts were happy.

With tickets purchased we happily drove to Ciela resort the lovely resort on the outskirts of Lusaka , READY to have a good time and as expected, we danced the night away.

Cleo Ice Queen sparkled in her dress and dropped serious bars, Vjeezy scorched our dancing shoes and Gesh Groove just has his pulse on what we want!

One difference between the two concerts was the second time around there was a standing section all the way in the back ( Regular tickets). We speculate that from the Dru Hill concert there were concerns raised about ticket price and Kudu made a cheaper ticket available in a standing section.

Now from our experience with concerts around the world, the standing section is usually right in front of the stage, costs much less than all other tickets and the people that buy those tickets are the super fans, the ones that will get there early to get to the front (to be closer to their idol!). This means that as soon as the doors open there is a scramble to get to the front! First come first served!

From the rumblings, we heard about the standing section ( which we were in!) it sounded like the culture of standing at concerts in Lusaka ( at K800) is a sore spot. Which leads to the dilemma: Should you be sitting at a concert or standing? When Gesh Groove drops the beat should you kick your chair aside to dance ( because we know you know when Gesh is in the house it’s over!)? Should someone that has some kind of physical problem be denied the right to sit and enjoy an artist they love? What if someone is tired and just wants to sit?

At the end of the day, it’s perfectly okay to get up and enjoy the heck out of a concert, chair or no chair. There you go, no need to feel self-conscious about it anymore. Pay for the section you want. It should be made clear by the organisers what each section offers. This is what made most people mad. All in all though, what a great time!

We love that they are giving our artists and DJ’s a platform to mix with international artists and show them what we’ve got! The photographers, the social media influencers, the sound guys, the event companies, Kudu is working on giving everyone a chance to shine and we are here for it.
