Lusaka, the vibrant capital of Zambia, boasts a plethora of intriguing landmarks and cultural attractions. Among its many notable features is Independence Avenue, a bustling thoroughfare that offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and contemporary charm. This iconic avenue stretches from Woodlands Roundabout ( The tank) all the way to Kafue Roundabout ( In town!) end to end, passing by significant landmarks like State House, the Army Base, and the British High Commissioner's house on the stretch that is pleasantly walkable ( ie Woodlands Roundabout to Zicta Traffic lights ( or the old American Embassy ). Adorned with magnificent flamboyant trees and featuring a central walkable path for biking and walking, Independence Avenue invites visitors to embark on a delightful journey of exploration.

From one end to the other, this picturesque avenue spans approximately 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) but the part we enjoy walking is 3.7 kilometres (2.3 miles). While the duration of the walk may vary depending on one's pace and the stops made along the way, it generally takes around 45 minutes to traverse the entire scenic part of Independence Avenue.

As you venture down Independence Avenue, you'll encounter several notable landmarks that weave together the fabric of Zambia's history and governance. One such landmark is the State House, the official residence of the Zambian President. While access to the premises is restricted, catching a glimpse of this majestic structure is a reminder of the country's political heritage.
Continuing your journey, you'll pass by the Army Base, which adds a touch of significance and national pride to the surroundings. The British High Commissioner's house stands as a testament to the historical ties between Zambia and the United Kingdom, you can’t really see the inside because of security measures, but .. it’s there :)
