If you're looking for a unique and vibrant shopping experience, look no further than your local weekend markets. From farm-fresh produce to quirky thrift finds and mouth-watering street food, these markets have it all. So why not grab a friend, get your shopping bags ready, and let's explore the wonderful world of weekend markets together. In this blog post, we will highlight some of the top markets to visit in Lusaka on the weekends.

The Farm Gate Stall

If you are over on the Leopards Hill side of town or fancy a drive, the Farm Gate stall should have what you need! From fresh vegetables, dairy products, meat, homemade goodies, and flowers, this market is a great one to visit. They also feature fresh oven-baked pizza and hot drinks if it’s chilly. We love this market ( and even got some lard made by them which we thoroughly enjoyed!)

The Farmers Market at The Barnyard Bonanza

If you are looking for a market with a little bit of everything, this is your market. It boasts food stalls, craft stalls, fresh produce stalls, baked goods and drinks. They also offer kids entertainment!

Located at The Barnyard, a cosy group of spaces dedicated to uplifting communities in Zambia ( African Butterfly, Chena Art Gallery, The Wright House company, Local), this market is a great wander around, buy something but sit and eat kind of market.

Lilayi Green Market

If you are on the Lilayi Makeni side of town then this market is for you! Supporting local entrepreneurs it boasts arts and crafts, decor, baking, gourmet butter, clothing for Kids, Jewellery and Food and Drinks. They also have upcycled, recycled and eco-friendly products. What is great about this market is that they are always looking for new entrepreneurs to spice up their offerings. Pay them a visit and be surprised by what you walk away with.

Sugarbush Thrift Sunday

Located in the Sugarbush Cafe gardens on Leopards Hill Road, this thrift market is great if you know how to find gems while thrifting. Shop a wide range of preowned or upcycled clothes as you lounge on the Sugarbush grounds ( love the lavender as always!). You can also order from the Sugarbush cafe and hang out with friends as you thrift. ( A friend’s opinion always helps when you thrift!)

Lusaka Food Market

This well-loved Lusaka food market is a nice way to spend a Saturday morning ( we prefer the morning, but we know some people love to roll in for lunch or after lunch!)

With familiar faces manning the food stalls, this market is a great place to meet with friends, talk, do a little shopping and eat something different.

Sea Salt Family Market

This is a new market on the scene, located at the Sea Salt restaurant which overlooks a polo field, they definitely have the space for a beautiful market. Expect good food, kid’s entertainment and a good time.

A note-worthy market is the Tuesday market on Burma Road, Libala ( held every Tuesday! which has been going for YEARS!! ) which hosts a large number of marketeers with all kinds of spices and vegetables! Always smells so good over there! Please take your take your own bags, and someone that can speak the local language if you cannot ( but trust us, everyone, speaks money.)

If we have missed any markets please feel free to let us know!
